Scooter Libby was just sentenced to 30 months in jail and a $250k fine for perjury and obstruction of justice while Sandy the Burglar surrendered his law license in May in order to prevent questions about the destruction of classified documents in the National Archives.

It hardly seems equitable.  For months now we've been hearing the hyperbolic rhetoric of the SHAME of Libby's 'outing' the secret agent party girl of the DC cocktail circuit, the Vanity Fair covergirl, and as Jeff Goldstein characterizes it, 'patently absurd justifications for pushing forward in the hope of grabbing a Republican scalp.'  Mum's the word on any kind of consequences for Richard Armitage, since Fitzgerald knew the entire time that Armitage was involved.

Ronald Cass  writes at Real Clear Politics:

On May 17th, Sandy Berger, President Bill Clinton’s National Security Adviser, voluntarily gave up his law license and with it the right to practice law. That is a stunning move for an accomplished lawyer, one of the nation’s most influential public officials. Someone should take note. In fact, everyone should.

Berger previously entered a deal with the Department of Justice after he was caught stealing and destroying highly sensitive classified material regarding the Clinton Administration’s handling of terrorism issues. That deal allowed him to avoid jail time, pay a modest fine, and keep his law license. It also allowed him to avoid full explanation of what he had taken and why he had taken it.

Author of The Rule of Law in America, Cass is currently the Chairman of the Center for the Rule of Law, Dean Emeritus of Boston University School of Law.

In a real world, there is such a thing as plausible deniability, and I'm still not convinced that Libby hasn't paid a terrible price for being caught with a bad memory.  We can't say that of Berger, he was caught stuffing documents down his pants, and the subsequent voluntary submission of his law license reveals a completely intentional denial of further inquiry.

But we are in a new world; that of George Soros' Open Society, since Crew is there to champion the cause for Valerie Plame.

CREW was also involved with the Foley and DeLay scandals.

According to Discover the Networks, CREW has managed to carve out a definitive niche for itself in that it's a leftist citizens action group that operates through the courts with a convenient 501(c)(3) status.

CREW has received financial backing from George Soros's Open Society Institute, Democracy Alliance, the Tides Foundation, the Streisand Foundation, the Arca Foundation, the David Geffen Foundation, the Wallace Global Fund, the Mayberg Family Charitable Foundation, the Woodbury Fund, and the Sheller Family Foundation -- all institutions distinguished by their support for far-left causes.

Crew's involvement in this indictment of Libby is not mentioned anywhere, but I'm certain it's been running behind the scenes, due to the other legal outfits that it is affiliated with.

On August 15, 2006, CREW took on the legal case of Valerie Plame Wilson and her husband, former U.S. ambassador Joseph Wilson, who jointly filed a federal civil lawsuit against U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney, his former Chief of Staff I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, top Presidential advisor Karl Rove, and other then-current and former administration officials. In an episode that came to be popularly known as "Plamegate," the Wilsons charged that the defendants had intentionally exposed Mrs. Wilson's classified CIA status to reporters in order to punish her husband for having publicly disputed statements made by President Bush in his 2003 State of the Union address justifying the U.S. invasion of Iraq.

And since they have no way to prove that, since Aldrich Ames outted her before 1994 when he was arrested for espionage-and that was the reason she was relegated to a desk job, they're just pulling a sleight of hand trick with obfuscation, smoke and mirrors to achieve the desired effect.  The goal is to get as many republicans out of office as possible, no matter what the means.  And as we all watch, I can see what a painful and difficult time people who hold conservative views will have, with these witch hunts so public, and so undeniably stupid, unfounded and unnecessary, reducing republican numbers through what appear to be scare tactics.  But it sure gives a new meaning to the word 'politically correct'.  Nowadays, you can lose your job, your career, your office, your freedom if you're on the wrong side of politics.

As Victoria Toensing said in both testimony in front of Waxman's committee and in a piece at the NRO, Valerie Plame was driving to Langley every day and was sitting behind a desk.  There is no way she was 'covert' according to the the Identities Protection Act of 1992, and she should know, she helped craft it.

But the hyperbole marches on.
