The law firm of Coates & Davenport located at 5206 Markel Road, Suite 200, Richmond, VA. 23230 sent a 5 paragraph priority mail letter to Col. Van T. Barfoot, ordering him in the name of the Home Owners Association to remove his free standing flag pole by 5:00 pm Friday or face legal action. (Being retired military myself I can sympathize with the Col.)

Col. Barfoot just happens to be the most decorated American combat veteran still living, having been awarded over 20 medals, including the Congressional Medal of Honor, the Silver Star, the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, and three Purple Hearts.

He is a distinguished veteran of World War 11, Korea, and Vietnam.

Wounded in combat three times this honorable man raises the Flag every morning, then lowers it each evening and folds the Flag in a three-corner military manner at dusk each day.

The Homeowners Association does not explicitly forbid flagpoles, its policy stipulates they must be “aesthetically appropriate,” by which they mean only short flags on porches are permitted.

The board originally ordered the flag pole removed in July, ruling that such flag poles are not pleasing to the board’s eye.

To quote Colonel Barfoot; “There has never been a day in my life, or a place I have lived in my life that you couldn’t fly the American Flag.”

I (the author) sold my house because of people who run Home owners Associations, and I won’t buy a condo for the same reason.

The jackasses who sit on these boards seem to have nothing better to do than make up stupid rules to give people a hard time while exercising their inflated egos. I guess that is the only way they can make themselves feel important.

I have a suggestion for the board members of that association, why don’t you all go try sandpapering a wildcats butt in a telephone booth, that should keep you worthless bunch of schmucks busy for a while.  Hak mir nit kain tsheinik (Yiddish for don’t bother me or don’t bang on the tea kettle).

I tried calling the Home Owners Association but their line has been disconnected evidently they received a ton of irate calls (as well they should).

What the Association board members need is a size 10 G.I. Boot buried so deep in their RearEnd that they would need a map and a search party to find it!
